Regular maintenance of your oral health is important
Just like a car or motorbike, regular servicing and maintenance will allow you to keep getting from A-to-B without any dramas.
This could be the same for your teeth. Being on top of your oral maintenance will ensure you have excellent oral health. If neglected, you may encounter a range of issues including decay and possibly tooth loss.
Here at Lake View Dental, our goal is to ensure you maintain excellent oral health throughout your life.
What is General Dentistry?
General Dentistry is a service provided by dentists to ensure their patients’ oral health is kept up to date all year round. Here at Lake View Dental, we offer a range of services that gives you the peace of mind of excellent oral health.
Root Canal Therapy
Root canal therapy involves the repairing or saving of a tooth that has been affected with a dead or damaged pulp. A root canal involves removing this infected nerve from your tooth, cleaning out bacteria in the nerve that is causing you pain, and sealing it to prevent re-infection and recurrent toothache.
Once this matter is removed the cavity is filled with a permanent filling and final fitted with a crown. If you choose to avoid treatment, it may eventually lead to an abscess – a collection of pus that causes bacterial infection and can spread to surrounding tissue; affecting multiple teeth.
Dental Fillings
Dental fillings are excellent for restoring a tooth damaged by decay. During treatment, the decay is removed then cleaned thoroughly before the tooth is restored using a filling.
At Lake View Dental, we offer white composite resin fillings. This type of filling is incredibly discreet and blends in well with the natural surface of your tooth.
In the past, many dentists choose to use silver amalgam fillings. Thanks to advancements in dentistry we now know the implications of using amalgam which is why many people are opting for the replacement of their original fillings. If you would like to have your amalgam fillings replaced with composite resin fillings, book your appointment at Lake View Dental. Our team use high-speed air evacuation and seal your tooth with special materials during the removal to minimize possible mercury release.
Checkup & Clean
Visiting the dentist every 6 months can actively support your oral health and promote good habits for life. This is especially important for children and teenagers whose mouths are still developing.
What to expect during a check-up and clean?
Your visit to the dentist will start off with a review of your medical and dental health history. During this time, you should bring up any questions or concerns that you may have about your teeth and gums.
Dr Ian will give you a comprehensive examination which is inclusive of:
- Diagnostic photographs
- Small, low radiation X-rays on each side of your dentition
- Charting gum health
- Oral pathology check for signs of cancer
- Assessment of jaws in relation to breathing, function and potential TMJ issues
- Charting of dental work
- Professional clean with our Hygienist and applying a tropical remineralisation paste
- Discuss of all findings and presentation of your treatment plan
Wisdom Teeth Removal
Wisdom teeth are the third molar teeth that usually come through between 17 and 25 years of age and are generally the last teeth to erupt. More and more of these teeth are not able to fit within the dental arches due to space problems.
We advise to have wisdom teeth removed for these common reasons:
- Pain
- Tooth fracture
- Impacted teeth causing food impaction that leads to decay on the adjacent teeth.
- Unrestorable caries
Some other reasons may be included and the risks and benefits for treatment will be assessed in every case. The decision to remove your wisdom teeth can be complex, so it’s best to talk to a dentist about your situation. If a decision is not made to remove your wisdom teeth, they should still be monitored periodically due to the risk of developing complications and problems later.
